Brewing news India: InBev intending enter India & examining eventual joint-venture possibilities

InBev, the biggest world brewer by volume, wants entering the fast-growing Indian market and will announce its plans by the end of September, AFX communicated on September 12.

"We are finalising our India plan which will be announced by the month-end. Our brands will be on the shelves this year itself. One of them could be a new label exclusively for India." Brent Willis, Asia Pacific president said.

When asked whether the company would open a subsidiary or seek out a joint venture partner, Willis said: "We are in talks with companies for a possible joint venture partnership. I cannot divulge the name."

He added that several local brewers have expressed their interest in an alliance. "We have had talks with many such brewers. Ideally, we would like to establish relations with a company which has ample production capacities and a robust distribution network."
